Description

The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme is a multi-year programme that promotes teaching in public schools. Full-cost bursaries are available to enable eligible students to complete a full teaching qualification in an area of national priority. Recipients of these bursaries will be required to teach at a public school for the same number of years that they receive the bursary.

Who Can Apply

Matriculants or first year students with academic ability, who are eligible for BEd, PDCE, BA, BSc, BCom and BTech degrees with majors suitable for admission to teaching. Priority areas - Foundation Phase (Indigenous African Language, Mathematics, Natural Science, Technology) and Grades 10-12 (Mathematics; Agricultural Sciences; Life Sciences; Physical Sciences; Agricultural, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Information Technology, Computer Applications Technology; Engineering Graphics and Design.

This programme provides full-cost bursaries to cover tuition fees, accommodation with meals included, a book allowance, note and laboratory fees where applicable, as well as a monthly stipend to cover basic living expenses.
Duration

1 year renewable
Service Contract

Recipients will be required to teach one year for every year for which they receive a bursary. Qualified recipients of the bursary must request placement in a province of their choice. The provincial education department (PED) concerned will determine whether there is suitable post available. If there is not, the applicant may be placed in a PED that does have suitable vacancies. Please note that bursars cannot choose the school in which they would like to be placed.
